| Research Description | Dr. Herbert H. Tsang's current research interests consist of three areas: a) Bioinformatics, b) Data visualization, and c) Educational technology. In Bioinformatics, Dr. Tsang's concern the development of algorithms and tools for RNA secondary structure prediction and small RNA analysis. In particular, he is interested in the application of knowledge-based and statistical machine learning algorithms towards the automatic prediction of RNA secondary structure. Besides, he is interested in developing techniques for image analysis and scientific visualization for multidimensional data. In particular, his previous projects' data include medical images (MR, Ultrasound and CT) and remote sensing images (Hyperspectral and SAR). Also, he is interested in the analysis, design, development and evaluation of training and education materials and programs in eLearning environments. Specific areas include developing algorithms for enabling self-regulated learning in music.
Most of Dr. Tsang's research is performed in a highly collaborative team environment with members from a variety of backgrounds, such as engineers, computer scientists, molecular biologists, chemists, bioinformatians, musicians etc. Members all working closely together in a very effective manner to not only solve scientific problems but also seek new understanding to the world around us.
